environmental policy

Global Timber’s environmental policy is based on respect for our natural resources and on the importance, forests have for the climate, for our generation and for generations to come. This means that we actively work to operate and maintain sustainable forestry. We ensure that trees are felled legally, in accordance with international standards and in accordance with local regulations and legislation in our partners’ countries.

Global Timber is an active and engaged member of the Danish Timber Trade Federation, which requires that its members source wood based on sustainable principles and that they inspect their suppliers to ensure that they are environmentally responsible.

Global Timber recognises and supports the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC)

Global Timber is FSC® certified. We are also PEFC-certified.

Global Timber has implemented the EU security system that prevents trade in illegal timber.
This means that we ensure our products meet EUTR requirements, and we can provide guidance relating to other trade requirements that we also comply with. We respect human rights, comply with occupational health and safety regulations, are engaged in anti-corruption, and enter into partnerships that care for the environment, people and nature.

Selected suppliers from six continents. We directly inspect our purchases. Click on the continent you want to learn more about – and you will also be able to learn more about the types of wood we source from there.

North America & Canada

North America and Canada are important sourcing regions for Global Timber. We have our own Danish consultants who have worked in close collaboration with North American sawmills for many years. In North America, we primarily source American Maple, American Ash, American Basswood, white American Oak, red American Oak and many other types of wood. Beautiful Western Red Cedar is sourced from Canada.

South America

The continent of South America and Brazil in particular, has been the source of hardwood for decades. In Brazil, we collaborate with organizations that ensure sustainable forestry and compliance with environmental standards. In addition to Brazil, Peru is another of the countries where Global Timber has entered into a close collaboration with an FSC-certified sawmill. Global Timber sources Cumaru, Ipe, Jatoba among others from South America.

Europe

Global Timber primarily sources European maple, European ash, beech, birch, Douglas-fir and European Oak from Europe and the Scandinavian countries.

Africa

West African hardwoods are popular and Global Timber collaborates with several important sawmills in this region, including in the Congo Basin. Global Timber sources the popular African wood specie Sapele.

Asia

Global Timber has collaborated with sawmills in Asia for many years and since 2013 with own office in Asia. In particular, we source high-quality teak and wood species such as Kempas, Meranti and Merbau, which is sourced from South Asia. Global Timber also trades with Asia and exports timber to, for example, the Asian furniture industry.

Oceania

This region is dominated by the continent Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea and 12 small island states spread around the Pacific Ocean. Global Timber sources Victorian Oak from this region, which is primarily used by the window and door manufacturing industry. Victorian Oak can also be used to make stairways, floors, mouldings, furniture and kitchens. Victorian Oak is a Eucalyptus species that has natural colour variation – white to reddish brown. It is a strong, durable hardwood and easy to process.
